Secrets that will be Revealed!

Secrets that Will be Revealed!

Many people put on a show of religiosity in life so that they may impress others with their church-going, their prayers, and their “devout” life. But all of this is an empty show, an external means of gratifying their flesh and gaining the approval of others.

What about you? How do you live and what do you do? Are you keeping a “secret” from others so that they may not know the “real” you? The Bible calls this hypocrisy and it is severely condemned in Scripture.

Jesus said that hypocrisy was the “leaven” of the Pharisees (Luke 12:1). James said that the wisdom from above is “without hypocrisy” (James 3:17). And Peter tells us that we are to put aside hypocrisy (1 Peter 2:1). Our Lord severely condemned the Pharisees by calling them “hypocrites” (Matthew 23:13, 14, 15, 23, 25, 27, 29). In short, Jesus said that hypocrites will be sent to hell (Matthew 24:51). Let’s renounce all hypocrisy and live true, pure, and exemplary lives!

Friend, I must warn you: One day your secrets will be revealed! One day the sham of your life will be made known! The Lord Jesus declared, “Nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light” (Luke 8:17).

In another place, the Lord warned, “There is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known” (Luke 12:2). There is a great day of “uncovering” coming and we need to be prepared by repenting now and living sincere and true lives before God and others today.

Even in the Old Covenant days, we read this warning: “God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:14). While things may be “hidden” to other people, God knows all and He will deal with every “hidden” sin. Thus, David prayed to God, “Acquit me of hidden faults” (Psalm 19:12). Is this the kind of prayer that we earnestly pray to God?

Scripture says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good” (Proverbs 14:3). If God watches all—the evil and the good—He will see all of the things that you consider as “secrets”! They will come to light one day. It is better that they come to light now, while we have time, and while forgiveness is offered. Paul tells us that when “the Lord comes,” He will “both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts” (1 Corinthians 4:5). Are we ready for those “hidden” things to be disclosed?

This is the question that you and I must face. Do we want to openly confess our sins now or will we do this later? Are we willing to bring our “secrets” to light while we are living or will we wait until the Lord comes and brings them to light in the judgment?

Friend, the “hidden” things may be hidden to other people (including our parents, our spouse, our siblings, our children, our friends). But they are not hidden to God who sees and knows all! The “secret” things are not secret to God for He knows all things, including what is in our heart!

God has given us today as a day of grace and mercy, and we can rejoice in His offer of forgiveness today. Be willing to confess your sins against your husband or wife, your father or mother, or anyone else that you have been hiding from. Seek God’s forgiveness and the forgiveness of others now, while there is time. Let’s not wait for the “hidden” things to be revealed or the “secrets” to be made known. Make some decisions—some hard decisions—now, while we may, before the great day of Judgment arrives.
