The Catholic Church Proclaims the Year of Mercy!

Richard Hollerman

In 2015, “Pope” Francis announced that the following year would be the world Jubilee and the “Year of Mercy”! Probably every Catholic knows this but do we  realize what this was supposed to be for every person in this religious communion and the world?

The world in general, including Protestants or non-Catholics, may have allowed this day and year to pass them by, but the significance is great and should not be overlooked. Many declarations or pronunciations are made each year by the Catholic Pontiff, but we may allow them to pass us by and not detect their significance. Let’s notice, first of all, Francis’ Announcement and a few of the lines in it (we’ll not present all of it here, but the complete text is readily available online).

As we go over the following text, we’ll be making brief comments along the way. Take special note of what we say. Our indented comments will be found interspersed within the Catholic documents.

The Announcement of the Jubilee of Mercy

24 hours for the Lord, Friday, March 13, 2015 – St Peter Basilica

Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought of how the Church may render more clear her mission to be a witness to mercy; and we have to make this journey. It is a journey which begins with spiritual conversion. Therefore, I have decided to announce an Extraordinary Jubilee which has at its centre the mercy of God. It will be a Holy Year of Mercy.

The question logically comes to mind: Who gave Francis the divine right to proclaim a given year a “Holy Year of Mercy”? God didn’t give him this right, for no human would have this power. God alone can declare times and seasons, not any fallible, earthly, sinful being!

We want to live in the light of the word of the Lord: “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful” (cf. Lk 6:36). And this especially applies to confessors! So much mercy!

This Holy Year will commence on the next Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and will conclude on Sunday, 20 November 2016, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and living face of the Father’s mercy.

This blasphemous and unscriptural statement contradicts the plain truth of Scripture! It is wicked for a human being to say that another human being was “immaculately conceived” but this is just what the Catholic Church believes! This doctrine says that Mary was conceived in her mother’s womb so that she was never guilty of inherited sin or actual sin!

Yet every Bible student knows that this conflicts with numerous passages in God’s Word! Paul says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). He also declares that “all sinned” (5:12b). The Scriptures inform us, “All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way” (Isaiah 53:6a). Solomon also tells us that “there is no man who does not sin” (1 Kings 8:46). This includes Mary—and every other person who has ever been born into this world! Thus, the so-called “Immaculate Conception” is a false doctrine that must be repudiated by every lover of truth!

I entrust the organization of this Jubilee to the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, in order that it may come to life as a new step on the Church’s journey in her mission to bring the Gospel of mercy to each person.

Again we must ask who gave Francis the right to declare 2015 to be a “Jubilee”? It was supposed to be the fiftieth year after the Second Vatican Council. But even this is radically unscriptural. The idea of an “Ecumenical” council in which officers from around the world gather to deliberate important issues and issue decrees is utterly unbiblical! God did not make provision for an organization larger than the local assembly of believers. He surely didn’t instruct us to have officers that would be higher than the local body of believers. When the original twelve apostles died, the local body alone had functionaries—such as elders (overseers or shepherds), servants (deacons), teachers, etc.

By the way, there is reference above to “the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization.” Again, this would be unscriptural. In the New Testament, there is no provision for a “Pontifical Council.” Further, since the Catholic Church fails to even understand Evangelization (the promoting of the gospel), we question this reference to a “New Evangelization.”

I am confident that the whole Church, which is in such need of mercy for we are sinners, will be able to find in this Jubilee the joy of rediscovering and rendering fruitful God’s mercy, with which we are all called to give comfort to every man and every woman of our time. Do not forget that God forgives all, and God forgives always. Let us never tire of asking forgiveness. Let us henceforth entrust this Year to the Mother of Mercy, that she turn her gaze upon us and watch over our journey: our penitential journey, our year-long journey with an open heart, to receive the indulgence of God, to receive the mercy of God.

Again, we see the fiction that Mary is called “the Mother of Mercy.” She was the mother of Jesus, his four brothers and at least two sisters  (Matthew 13:55-56), but she is not at all the “Mother” of anyone living today or anyone living during the past 2,000 years!

Furthermore, she doesn’t “turn her gaze upon us and watch over our journey”! Mary is dead. She knows nothing about you and me. She was and is a mere mortal being, not a “god” of any kind! Although she has been elevated to the position of “Queen of Heaven,” she remains a mere mortal. She was not resurrected (as the Catholic Church declares); she was not sinless (as the Catholic Church declares); she is not a virgin (as the Catholic Church declares); she is not a spiritual “Queen” over all Catholics (as the Catholic Church declares); and she is not Mediatrix (as the Catholic Church declares). We know that there is only “one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).

Images of her (or as some falsely imagine her) are idols! As God says, “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them” (Exodus 20:3-5a). She is not the mediator between sinful men and women and God or Christ. Sadly, these blasphemous doctrines rob God of His right of exclusive worship!

Now let’s notice the “Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy” given in 2015:

Misericordiae Vultus

Obviously, all Bible students are aware that Francis is not the “bishop of Rome.” In New Testament days (the first century), Luke tells us that Paul and Barnabas “appointed elders [overseers or shepherds] in every church” (Acts 14:23). We also read that Paul left Titus in Crete so that he “would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city” (Titus 1:5). Since there must have been one small assembly in the cities of Crete, we can see how his command makes sense. Thus, each community of Christians was to have multiple elders/overseers/shepherds—and not a single elder or overseer in each city. Sadly, the Catholic Church has it all wrong and twisted.

The Holy Year will open on 8 December 2015, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

Again we must ask who gave Francis the right to declare 2016 as a “Holy Year,” involving “the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception”? God would not condone or support grossly false doctrine and to suggest this is blasphemous.

This liturgical feast day recalls God’s action from the very beginning of the history of mankind. After the sin of Adam and Eve, God did not wish to leave humanity alone in the throes of evil. And so he turned his gaze to Mary, holy and immaculate in love (cf. Eph 1:4), choosing her to be the Mother of man’s Redeemer.

In one sense, it is true that God knew (even before the creation of the world) that He would use Mary to bring His Son (Jesus Christ) into the world. But be careful! God didn’t “turn his gaze to Mary, holy and immaculate”! Mary was merely a means used by God to give birth to Jesus (see Luke 1:30-38), and nothing more!

When faced with the gravity of sin, God responds with the fullness of mercy. Mercy will always be greater than any sin, and no one can place limits on the love of God who is ever ready to forgive.

Let’s remember that God’s mercy and forgiveness are only given to people as they repent of their sins! As Peter declared, “Repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away” (Acts 3:19; see also 2:38-39; 8:22; 17:30-21; 20:21). Repentance is a missing but essential response today and always!

I will have the joy of opening the Holy Door on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. On that day, the Holy Door will become a Door of Mercy through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God who consoles, pardons, and instils hope.

No human being has the right to “open the Holy Door” of the Immaculate Conception. Francis cannot open a “Door of Mercy” for mercy has already been offered to all who repent since the day of Pentecost, about AD 30 (Acts 2:38)!

On the following Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Rome – that is, the Basilica of Saint John Lateran – will be opened. In the following weeks, the Holy Doors of the other Papal Basilicas will be opened. On the same Sunday, I will announce that in every local church, at the cathedral
– the mother church of the faithful in any particular area – or, alternatively, at the co-cathedral or another church of special significance, a Door of Mercy will be opened for the duration of the Holy Year.

This shows that the Roman Church is filled with many, many different unscriptural elements. We see reference to “Advent”—an unbiblical season in religion (that many Protestants have accepted!). There is the reference to “the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Rome,” even though Scripture is silent about a “Holy Door” as well as the existence of Cathedrals. We again see this so-called “Pope” ordering “local churches” which is totally unbiblical. There is no “Pope” in Scripture and to suggest this is an abomination in God’s sight. Francis refers to “the mother church” which, again, is an unscriptural concept. As mentioned before, there is no authority to proclaim a “Holy Year”! How one unbiblical concept leads to another! One sin leads to another.

At the discretion of the local ordinary, a similar door may be opened at any
shrine frequented by large groups of pilgrims, since visits to these holy sites are so often grace-filled moments, as people discover a path to conversion.

History tells us that even a “shrine” is an unbiblical concept and surely there are no “holy sites,” as mentioned here. Jesus made it clear that He wiped out so-called holy places, holy structures, and other unbiblical elements. Speaking to the woman at the well at the well of Sychar in Samaria, Jesus said, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father” (John 4:21). If Jerusalem would cease to be a special place of worship, surely Rome would be!

Every Particular Church, therefore, will be directly involved in living out this Holy Year as an extraordinary moment of grace and spiritual renewal. Thus the Jubilee will be celebrated both in Rome and in the Particular Churches as a visible sign of the Church’s universal communion.

Further Comments

The Catholic Church is a Roman institution that holds sway over more than a billion people worldwide. Why are this number of people deceived to the point that they stay in an institution that is obviously false, unscriptural, and idolatrous? Perhaps the answer is that faithful Catholics are ignorant of God’s own way and His truth revealed in Scripture. In prayer to God the Father, Jesus said, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). If people are unwilling to take the Word of God—the Scriptures—seriously, we can see that “truth” is a foreign concept to them. Only by opening the written Word of God will people be led out of darkness into the light of God! Remember too that only those who have “the love of the truth” can be saved (2 Thessalonians 2:10).

Francis is admired around the world–especially by faithful Catholics. Yes, some of the more traditional members are upset over his liberal and ecumenical attitudes and actions; but many still “love” him, perhaps because they also are liberal in their thinking. But we must also see all of this through the lens of Scripture. We must see that there are massive false teachings and false practices still within Roman Catholicism!

Of we take the Word of God seriously (and we must always do this!), we must conclude that this leader of worldwide Catholicism is a leading false teacher! Since he teaches massive false teachings and promotes the false teachings established by Catholic Councils, he cannot escape the Biblical label of False Teacher. Jesus warned, “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15; see vv. 13-23). Let us beware of following any man who would lead us astray for the end of this will be spiritual ruin (cf. 2 Peter 3:16-17).

We encourage all Catholic readers of these series of comments to open your eyes and think what following Francis and a false institutional church means. God does not take blasphemy lightly. He requires us to repent of all deception as we learn of it. Will you do this? Now is the time to renounce all of these unbiblical practices, to repent of all sin, and to find the truth in Christ Jesus alone (cf. John 14:6).!
