The Wuhan Virus

We don’t know whether to call this the “Wuhan Virus” or to call it the “Chinese Virus.” We think that the latter is a term that some would object to, thus we avoid it. Neither are we or the world absolutely sure how this dread disease began, although we think that everyone knows that it began in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

It may have come from the bats that are to be found in certain Chinese caves. Or it may come from the filthy Chinese places where bats can be bought or eaten. Many scientists think that it arose from a mistake in the Wuhan laboratory. Whatever we may conclude, nearly everyone believes that the disease is to be traced to China.

As I write this in 2021, there have been 214,191,678 cases of the Wuhan virus recorded, with some 4,623,850 deaths. (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/). Of course, every day these numbers climb. The statistics are even now outdated and old.

We may wonder what the costs of this virus are.  Again, this figure is constantly changing. We can read this: “In June and July 2021, COVID-19 hospitalizations among unvaccinated adults cost the U.S. health system over $2 Billion.” This is totally misleading, for it is only for the United States and it doesn’t cover the entire financial drain. Actually, it is difficult to obtain accurate and late figures on the costs of this virus. The number of deaths would be somewhat more accurate.

Thus, the costs are really staggering. We must think of over 200 million cases of infectious Coronavirus and perhaps 3 million deaths. The figures could be much higher. When we think of the number of people affected locally and worldwide, we know that each person affected is a living, breathing soul who needs God desperately. In fact, these 3 million dead persons are now in torment (Luke 16:23, 28) and agony (vv. 24-25). We may tend to forget this but it is absolutely true! Let’s remember that these people are not merely ones who once where living but who are now dead! They have lost all opportunity to repent and call on God for His salvation.

When we remember that we are not only dealing with the financial cost and the death of millions, but we are referring to the lost wages of billions of people worldwide. There are a massive number of people who have been affected by this! There have been multiple millions who have lost their jobs and even their lives. There are so many whose lives have been disrupted and destroyed. Maybe you are one of these many.

As we come to the abrupt close to this article, we again want to call on the Communist leaders of China, to which we must place the blame of this debacle, to repent. Although this may not be a popular word today, it is a good and true word! We call on them to not only recognize their part in these deaths and the expenditure of this cost, but we call on them to repent of their own sins and come to Christ Jesus for His free forgiveness.

Notice, please, that we don’t call on these evil men to merely acknowledge their sin and perhaps pay the world for this evil, but to personally repent and get right with God themselves. We know that most of the world population is not at all prepared to meet God and only the “few” are prepared, thus we call on these people to turn from their sin and find forgiveness through Christ Jesus and His sacrificial death. (cf. Matthew 7:13-14). Remember that they do not merely live for 70 or 80 years and then die, but they will actually continue to exist for all eternity, even after death, thus they need to find forgiveness now while there is time.

Of course, we are concerned about the 224 million of cases midway through 2021 and the 5 million deaths at present, but we can’t place a price on these people. If we were to say that each person represents a million dollars, this would be only 5 trillion dollars. If we were to place a cost on the number of cases (at a million for each), this would be $240 quadrillion dollars, or 224 million times a million, or 240 quadrillion dollars.

If we were to contact the Communist rules of China with these figures, what would they think? Would they only incredulously laugh? Would they be willing to pay some 224 quadrillion dollars to some world economic bank for all of the trouble that they have causes in these two years? We don’t think so. Nor do we think that most of the world would want them to shoulder this cost.

Right now, there is a new variant that is reaching into the world that is much more virulent and costly. Suppose that this goes on for another couple of years and there are 10 million deaths (with 448 million cases), this would be some 10 million deaths and 480 quadrillion dollars (if my reckoning is correct).

Friend, are you prepared for not only the finances and pain of this virus, but are you prepared to meet God and deal with His indictment of your sin? Now is the time to prepare. Now is the time to come to Him through Christ! (Lay aside your trust in Hinduism, Buddhism, Orthodoxy, Islam, Tauism, Confucianism, and much more, and find true forgiveness through Christ Jesus!) Now is the time while you are still alive!
