Richard Hollerman
We know that the Union (UAW) now has struck three auto plants in the United States. We find this deplorable. It definitely is wicked and sinful.
We realize that a labor union is unbiblical. It violates many Biblical teachings. However, we find that the present strike is unscriptural and opposes the ways of the Lord.
We know that Jesus asked a man about this in Luke 12:13-14 and then our Lord speaks about greed (v. 15). Jesus refused to participate in this argument and warns him (and us) about how we must avoid avarice or greed.
This is what the unions are doing. We know that this unprecedented move is unjust in the extreme. Yes (from what we understand), we realize that the company leadership are wrong (and they will surely give an account to God for this), but we also realize that the union is wrong. They do have millions of dollars in their “war” reserve, but this gives no justification for their bad behavior.
We have seen massive workers take to the street and picket for 40% increased wages, more sick leave, pensions, and many, many other benefits. As a Christian who sees this, I must say that one penny is wrong and unjustified. Thus, we call upon all workers who claim to be Christian, all of those who build expensive and unjustified vehicles, who oppose and reject company leadership, who greedily seek higher wages and more benefits, to relinquish and turn to God for His help.
Regardless of any misdeeds of the company (of which they surely are wrong), the union (UAW) is also wrong. Regardless of the general wage increase, the union is wrong. Regardless of the “cost-of-living” pay raises, the union is wrong. We have read that the union is demanding (yes, you read this correctly) a 32-hour work week and not merely a regular 40-hour week, a 4-day work week, and increased pension benefits. (Selah)
We assume that the company is wrong, from a Christian standpoint. But we also know that the union is wrong and must be condemned for their unchristian and evil activities. Anyone who supports and agrees with this egregious activity must be condemned in no uncertain terms.
As Christians, we somehow think that others should act in an agreeable and wholesome manner. Whether we are speaking about the company (which is wrong) or the union (which also is wrong), we think (wrongly) that people should act in a civil and “Christian” way. No, people are not Christian and never will be. And those union members who claim to be “Christian” sadly are not.
What should the repentant member do? Of course, they should give back the massive millions that they have taken. Pensions should be given back. Wages should be given back. Definitely, they should repent for their wickedness in all of this. Nothing less than this will do. We realize that professing “Christians” (if there are any) will suffer hardship but this is the price for following Jesus in the midst of adversity (Luke 9:23-26; 14:26-27).
Jesus declared that we must follow Him in all respects in every way. Are you willing to do this?
