A New Year for You! (2019)

A New Year for You!

God has graciously brought us to the end of another year—2018. And He has set one more year before us—2019. Probably a few who began the year with us are no longer present and perhaps a few of you are new to our yearly outreach. It is an awesome thing to realize that time goes by!

The psalmist wrote: “LORD, make me to know my end and what is the extent of my days; let me know how transient I am” (Psalm 39:4). Let’s remember also the words of Moses: “So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).

We must confess that our days are few! Have you pondered this yourself? At best, we may live to be 100 years, but you and I will continue on for 1,000 years and beyond—for all eternity! What do we mean? We mean 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years—and beyond! Endlessly! Forever! This is why it is so vital to obey the words of Peter: “Be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you” (2 Peter 1:10). Now is the only time we have to make sure that at death we are going to be with God for all eternity! We have only this very brief period of time (our life) to prepare for eternity! Are we prepared now?

Here are a Few Facts to Remember

Someone has wisely said, “To be forewarned is to be forearmed.” If we face and answer certain basic issues now we will be able to live our life with utter joy, peace, and confidence.

  • Have you faced the fact of your own sin and alienation from God (Romans 3:23; 6:23)?
  • Have you learned how God has solved this separation of the sinner from Him (Isaiah 59:2)?
  • Have you come to a humble awareness of your guilt and the way to remove it (Romans 6:23)?
  • Have you seen that God is able to receive those who come to Him in faith through Christ (John 3:14-18, 36), genuine repentance (Acts 2:38), complete submission (Colossians 2:6), and a humble response in baptism (Acts 2:38-39)?
  • Have you learned that our entire life is to be focused on Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:21), the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33), the will and word of God (Matthew 28:18-20), and blessing all people (Mark 12:28-31)?
  • Do you now see that you must center your entire life on the life to come and not be weighted down with the passing pleasures of life (1 John 2:15-17)?

May God bless you this year of 2019 in Christ Jesus!

All of our love, Richard and Monica Hollerman
