Wherever we look, there are multiple crises around us. What do we mean by this?
We just learned of the plane crash of a Russian dictator who was responsible for killing hundreds of millions of his “enemy” status. He is gone but his “enemies” are also gone—probably most or all gone to Hades!
We are all aware of the war in Russia and Ukraine. Why do they continue in this way? Why are there so many wars and killings in the world? Just this morning, we learned of another bombing raid. But why?
We know of the poverty in Mali, in Somalia, in Chad, and in Sudan. Why? Why are there so many places filled with disease, with poverty, with sickness, and with poor sanitation?
There has been unprecedented rain in California, hurricanes in Florida, wild fires in Oregon, building collapses and fires in Hawaii, and elsewhere.
We know of the massive influx of immigrants from Mexico, Central America, the West Indies, and elsewhere. We are not just speaking of one hundred, one thousand, or one million—but perhaps seven million at the last reckoning. And this, besides the 40 million already here!
Immigrants have come from perhaps 80 to 100 different countries, across the Northwestern states and now, across the Canadian border. But why? And what can be done about this?
We know of the world nations, overcome by poverty, by wars, by disease, by death itself. But what are we to make of all of this?
Then there is the drug crises, especially “fentanyl,” brought on by China, then by Mexico, then by the Mexican “cartels,” and by others. We refer to the hundreds and even thousands who have died. And the slaughter continues on and on.
It seems that wherever we look, we see crises and there are multiple trials. Isn’t this what we can expect—for we are living in the world and in a fallen earth? The Lord Jesus has said, “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
We are living in a world consisting of about nine billion people and surely most of them don’t know God and have no interest in Him. Is it any surprise that the world is in upheaval and a mess now? And so these crises are what we can expect. Day by day, it continues and year by year, it seems that there is no end. This has been the way it has been for two thousand years—even since the beginning.
But we can look forward to God’s redeeming love and His rescue of His people! Let us look forward to the end of this mayhem and His redemption. Jesus is the Redeemer and He always will give the victory. Let us trust in Him and look for this coming salvation!
