I just finished seeing a presentation of people who lived in the past, with leading roles on TV and in movies. Some of them are now gone and I suspect that some may still be alive at this writing.

From what we could see, there are various conclusions that we could reach. Some of these characters are now gone. This should teach us something. Regardless of how “successful” a person may be, it all needs to come to an end. They may have their “heyday” and the acclaim of the public, but they will one day die and then…?

Then, while they were still living (for those who are now alive), they have made millions, but it then came to an end. These people, who may have earned or been given millions during their earthly life but are not gone, where are they now? And even if they “earned” a million or ten million dollars through their endeavors, what is this compared to eternal life?

If these people were beautiful during their younger years (some were presumably) 10 or 14 or 18 at the time, what would that be now? Some of them were married twice or three times but now this is all gone. They had their day of fame and once they were handsome or beautiful, but at age 70 or 80 this all cane to an end and it is now gone. No longer do they have the attractiveness that they once had and if they are still alive, it is now all gone.

We know that some of them must have lived in regal splendor at one time, if they had much wealth remaining, but now this is gone and at least some of them can barely made it. Their fortunes are gone and they can no longer perform, but they are still alive (some of them) and can barely “hold on” for a few more years. Then what?

Many of these dear people are now gone. They had their day of acclaim and found favor among the public but are gone—forever. What did they really derive from their life?

There is no indication that any of them had an interest in Jesus or the will of God. They seem to be oblivious to this reality. Yes, they may have had the applause of man, they may have lived in riches, they may have owned mansions, they may have had men and women falling at their feet, but now it is all gone.

This reminds me of the words of Scripture, where Jesus asks, “What shall a man give exchange for his soul?” We must ask the same. What shall these people, who had their fame and fortune at one time in the past, through TV and movies, what shall they now give for this selfish and evil life? What did they do with their money? Where did their mansions go? How shall we look at their public performances?

Some of them lost it all through drug abuse while others may have been able to keep their money and put it into the bank for a “rainy day” (which never came). Where are they now and all of these “beautiful faces” are now gone. Really, people only live for sixty, seventy, eighty, or ninety years—and then they are gone. As we look at the pictures and photos of the past, we wonder. Now their beauty has flown and their delightfulness has gone. They are no more.

But where are they now?
