Can the Evolutionist Be Saved?
Richard Hollerman
We think that many of our readers may assume that people, in general, can be saved. They can be saved from sin, from hell, and from even ignorance. So why all of the “fuss” about these things? And why even ask such a crazy question? Thus, we express this, as many would below.
Question
Can the person who believes in evolution be saved and go to heaven? Can such a person come to Christ and turn away from the ways of the world and thus enter the presence of God, eternally?
Answer
Obviously, the answer is a qualified Yes. Such a person may be saved. This pertains to half of the population of the United States and many more in other countries of the world. It is true that certain nations have a higher percentage of people who believe in creation and that God made all things out of nothing. (This is called ex nihilo creation.) But in many nations of the world, we know that the majority disbelieve in creation. They disbelieve the Bible. And they reject any answers that the Word of God would dictate! We think of Europe, for example, and certain Asian countries that hold to certain world religions, such as China, Japan, and so forth. Yes, they are wrong, but apparently they think that they are right in this unbelief.
America is something else. And this would be true of Central America, Africa, South America, as well as the Islamic Countries. They may be lost for other reasons, but gladly we can acknowledge that they do believe in and promote creation in one form or another. We distinguish this from “creationism” that may be more Biblical but somewhat more conservative. But America does believe in more of a Biblical view with millions accepting creation and the fact that God made all things! Many of these (but not all) would take more of a Biblical stand and promote the fact that God did create all things in the beginning.
Strangely, we find that most “scientists” (if we may call them that) do believe in evolution. They wrongly think that all things arose from a “Big Bang” over 14 billion years ago and that all life arose perhaps three or four billion years ago. Human life, according to this misguided and wrong-headed view, came about from pre-existing life and continued to evolve until we come to homo sapiens and modern humanity. This would mean that the educational establishment, the government, even the entertainment industry, are all wrong and have missed the mark. Yet we know that, by and large, the American public has “bought into” this defective scenario and either allows or promotes the government, educators, and others to hold to evolution and reject Biblical creation.
Gladly, we acknowledge that millions of Americans reject this view of things but also are willing to pay the salaries of these unbelieving scientists, these unbelieving educators, these entertainers, these government officials, and all others who may hold to the false doctrine of evolution along with all of the unbelief that this suggests. Yes, it is inconsistent, but it is true. We acknowledge that there are a few “Christian” and other “scientists” who believe in creation but their number is minimal compared to the large numbers of those who are unbelievers. (This is one reason why we strongly urge people to avoid certain professions that promote evolutionary perspectives, such as scientists, the medical profession, and others!)
Thus, we say that God can save and forgive the scientist, the entertainer, the educator, and others, but surely God doesn’t save them or anyone else in their sin! All through the Bible we see that God urges us to come to Christ and find His forgiveness through repentance. If one does repent of this and all sin, God can and does forgive that person. But it comes down to the fact of repentance. Are people willing to repent of the sin of unbelief and evolution? Are they willing to bow the knee to God as Creator and Christ as Savior? Are they willing to turn from their promotion of an ungodly system and their unbelief? We know that this is an affront to God Himself. It conflicts with what He has revealed in Scripture about the fact that He created all things. And, we might add, He did this relatively recently rather than 14 billion years ago!
So we began by asking the question whether the evolutionist can be saved. Yes, he can. But he must be willing to forsake His unbelief and His rejection of God’s Word and repent of all of his (or her) sin. Are they willing to do this? Are you willing to do this? Then we must confidently say that God can and does save such a person, by His grace and by the sacrificial death of Christ!

Sadly, we must acknowledge that some of this, while promoting truth regarding creation and evolution, holds to untruth regarding salvation. We encourage you to examine this further, while you hold to the truth and reject error!
