Richard Hollerman
Today, I was impressed with a few of the people I have met who are kind and considerate. They have shown an interest in our needs. And we are attentive to their needs as well. Yes, it is true that we would like to see more people this way, but it is refreshing to see at least a few who have an interest in God and the ways of Christ. They do show a decided interest in the Lord and for this we are grateful.
For example, today I was getting into the car to drive and a woman in the parking lot said, “Amen, that is right!” She was referring to the back of my car that has a Christian sign on it, one that seeks to make a statement that people can see.
Further, at a “farmer’s market” in town, another person (perhaps he was a special worker of some kind) was lively and blessed to learn that we were professing Christians and believed in God and in Christ Jesus, especially after he saw our car bumper sticker.
Then we think of a man who was picking up items from the ground at an establishment. He diligently pursued this work and we commended him for his diligence.
We remember also one who labored diligently with his labors, picking up trash and refuse in the area. He was earnest in his endeavors and we commended him for his work.
We know that these are somewhat abnormal expressions of kindness and interest in the Lord. We must admit that most people are not like this. Some are unconcerned. Others are opposed to righteousness. But even though the majority of people there uttered verbal expressions that are are evil and surely not right, we are grateful for those who didn’t. But we can rejoice that there are a few who have a “godly” attitude and winsome spirit these days. We are thankful that there are these expressions that come our way from time to time to lighten our spirits and give us a merry response, by God’s grace.
If this is the case in “Christian” Texas, we wonder about other states where there is little interest in God. And the same would be true in other countries who don’t even profess Christ. What would a response be in this case? It may be that rural America is different from urban cities. But we are living in a “fallen” world with numerous limitations. Gladly, we are grateful for every “kind” expression and every involved person. God does give kind manifestations of His goodness and for this we are grateful!
