I think that we all know what restitution means. It means “the restoring to the rightful owner of something that has been taken away, lost, or surrendered.” It can also carry with it, “The act of making good or compensating for loss, damage, or injury.” (The American Heritage College Dictionary).

It is not too far from this to say that it would refer to reparation for something lost or undone or something that needs to be changed. We have a couple articles dealing with this on the website. But here we wish to deal with restitution or dealing with reparation for something in the past.

A few of the issues that we must deal with as we think of the sins of the past and how we are to look upon them would be the following. We know that these deal mainly with young people and those who are older, but they all deal with issues that we must confront. After all, at least some of them and perhaps all of them do deal with sins that we have been involved in and must repent of.

Music

Think of the way that this massive social problem confronts each of us. We must repent of the songs that we have heard and the instrumental music that we enjoyed but we must repent and repent deeply. There are thousands of songs and music that would be considered evil from a Christian standpoint.

Computer

The laptop computer, the cell phones, and desktop computer, and the like are massive means that the devil has used for his own purposes. Let us repent and turn away from this blasphemy to the living God.

TV

We all know of the wickedness on the screen. There are dozens and even hundreds of means that the TV brings into our lives and into our living rooms. Why is it that we can’t see the damage that has been done and continues to do in this regard, whether once a week or several hours a day?

Radio

This also must be categorized with the TV for it is evil beyond measure. There must be hundreds and even thousands of radio stations and radio programs that are both questionable and evil from a Christian standpoint. Every time the radio is used, surely most of the programs are wicked and must be shunned.

Dancing

I know that this is merely one of many different venues that affect us, but there are millions of young people and older people who have been adversely influenced by this form of amusement. Whether it be the proverbial “Saturday night dance” or the dancing that occurs in a
night club” environment. We must say No to this and go on to something more spiritual and not lustful.

Movies

Perhaps this should be considered under TV but, on the other hand, it does deserve its own section. Movies, for the past century and beyond, have brought so much evil into our lives. Whether it be the silent movies in the past or the more recent moves of the 20s or 30s or 40s or even more recent years, it has brought a massive amount of worldliness and wickedness into our consciences.

Driving

Every day, as I go to the highways and streets, I am reminded that many (is it now 80% or 90%?) of drivers are evil and drive their cars and trucks in an evil way. Of course, we know that people do drive expensive and outrageously high end vehicles, and their of very high cost. All of this is evil, of course, and the true Christian must repent of this. We know that people drive their cars and trucks 10,000 or even 20,000 miles a year (which is very high) but they are responsible for a massive amount of evil on the highway.

Jobs

Probably we realize that tens of millions of people have occupations that are not good. In fact, they are opposed to the ways of God. Both in America and around the world, people have jobs that are unworthy of the saved person! They must be repented of, of course, and the choice is ours.

Clothing

We realize that tens of millions of people in America and around the world dress in an evil way. Thus too needs repentance. Whether we speak of worldly attire or worldly influences, both men and woman need to make restitution!

Appearance

Very close to the former we know that young and older people appear in wicked ways and need to make amends for their fool-hardy ways. Tatoos, body markings, styles, and so much more would be involved in this wrongdoing.

Education

This is such a broad subject but we must tackle it.  We realize that tens f millions of young people in America and hundreds of millions from around the world are involved in questionable schooling. In fact, we know that these young people (ranging in age from three or four on to college and university age young people) receive an evil educational experience. This needs to be restituted for, of course, and (somehow) these people need to turn from this wickedness and worldliness.

These would only be a smattering of the many sins that would be involved in this need to repent and even make restitution. People need to make amends for the evil of the past and the present. Yes, it may be 20, 50, 200, or more years ago, but there needs to be a thoroughgoing repentance. People need to make restitution for their sins of the past, and this would include the recent past and the distant past. People need to make restitution!
