Richard Hollerman
I have been reading a book about theism and atheism. Actually, I reading it for the second time and am about half through.
The interesting thing about the volume is this: The book thoroughly shows that atheism, the “new atheism,” is false and should be rejected by the rational person. As one reads this book, whether the first or second time, it does show how nonsensical it is to reject a belief in God. It is nonsensical to say and believe that God does not exist.
But what is left? If there should be a billion or two or three billion people in the world who do believe in God and who reject the non-existence of God, what does this mean? If there are 10,000 or 30,000 different “ways” in the world that say that God does exist—but they are all wrong, then what? Suppose that thousands of people are wrong and believe the wrong thing, what does this prove?
I fact, there are thousands of different theistic religions in the world, but (sadly) they are all wrong. No, not wrong regarding the existence of God (for then and we know that there is a God, a Creator-God, and the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ), but wrong on what God requires of us and how we may come to know Him–personally!
I know various people around me and they would all firmly affirm that there is a God. They would say that He created all things. And many of them would say that He has been Creator for several thousands of years. (Some would mistakenly say that He created all things 14 billion years ago and that humanity has been around for millions of years.) Yes, they would be wrong—dreadfully wrong—about this.
Yet we know that there are a large number of these deluded people who would say that we come to God for His forgiveness in one way and not in another way. They would say, mistakenly, that we must come to God through Christ and with a faith in Him. And this faith is to be found in genuine repentance from sin (Luke 13:3, 5). Further, these dear people would say that one should go beyond this and even confess his faith in Christ (Romans 10:9-10) and be baptized into Him (Acts 2:38; 22:16).
But it might be (according to these dear people) that these “believers” (?) should be sprinkled or poured as babies, and that they should do this to be regenerated (or “born again”). (This would be a Calvinistic stand.) And some might say that people should be immersed as believers “to show the world that John Doe or Mary Smith” has become a Christian (a Baptist view). But is this true?
So hopefully, we can see that we do need to believe in Christ and not in a mindless “evolution” or even a mindless Creation. We need to affirm that not only is there a Creator and He made us, that He did so rather recently, that we all must demonstrate this by being baptized into Him, but we must come to God and affirm all that Scripture does on the pages of the Bible!
Will you do this?
