Richard Hollerman

Think for a moment of the fact that numerous people seem to be totally oblivious of eternity and go on their merry way with no thought of life to come. They make their money now. They sing their worldly songs now. They are concerned about houses and lands now. But all of this will mean nothing in the future.

In a thousand years, even a hundred years or (more unrealistically), in a million years, we wonder. In fifty years these people will be gone. Their piled up treasure will be no more. They, personally, will be no more. And then we know that what really matters will be whether the person knew Christ and experienced salvation while there was yet time.

We think of 1 John 2:15-17. This was one of the first scriptures that I memorized as a teenager and it still rings true:

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves te world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

This definitely touches the heart and it means so much. Are you doing this and are you prepared?

Some years ago, I received the lyrics of a song that was sung recently. It make sense and I offer them to you because of the meaning:

Just one life to live on Earth

And it swiftly passes by

From the moment of our birth

Till the time has come to die

God has given us this choice

To decide our destiny

In a million years where will you be

Where will you be a million years from now

Will you be happy, will you be singing

While ages roll throughout eternity

I ask this question where will you be

In the Bible we are told

Of a day that soon will come

When the people of this Earth

Will be gathered at God’s throne

When you stand before His throne

There for all the world to see

Will He say well done

Where will you be

Friend, are you spending your life with pursuits that will one day pass away? Or are you living for eternity now, while you have time? In the words of the song, in a million years, are you going to be singing or are you going to be in anguish?

God knows that we must devote our lives to Him now. Let us cast off all of the deeds of darkness now and put on the armor of light. Let us live for the One who is eternal and can give us eternal life now, while there is time and while we can love and serve Him!
