The Greatest Thought

I don’t know about you but I think that it does us good to sometimes think of those large, expansive, and spiritual thoughts. When we dwell on such subjects, we move beyond the temporal that we often think about and move into the matters of eternity.

A friend wrote and asked me to tell what thoughts occupied my mind. All I could think of was the word “God.” If He created all things (including you and me) we can understand that He would occupy our heart with His fullness. If God made us, He should fill us with His presence.

But this is not all there is. Let’s consider another thought that can expand our mind: Eternity. Whether we think of the great subject of “time” or not, we know that we are bound to this life—but God is eternal. Do you often think of the fact that you are here for only a brief time (a very brief time!), bu6t God is eternal? Further, you also will dwell somewhere eternally. Some of us will dwell with God forever—but, sadly, most of us will be separated from Him for all time.

There are many words that perhaps you think of when you think of these matters. What about Jesus Christ? He definitely is eternal and He must be Someone you think about when you ruminate about the greatest thoughts of all. He has created you and sustains you. All are subject to Him and one day all will bow before Him. He has not only made you but He will bring all to completion one day (2 Corinthians 5:10). Let’s think about Him very often!

Maybe you have thought of the spiritual gifts that God has given you. How many of you have pondered the meaning of God’s forgiveness, His redemption, His truth, or His love? Think of the blessings of the Lord’s forgiveness, the fact that He has redeemed you, His eternal truth, and the blessings of His love—the blessings that money could not buy. They are freely given and bestowed on us by His grace!

It may be that you will think of the resurrection body that God will give to you.  All of the aches, pains, and sicknesses that you presently have will be in the past. God will give you a brand new, perfect, and eternal body that will not be subject to pain, death, mourning, or crying, for “the first things” of this life and this earth will have passed away. God will make “all things new” in the coming life (Revelation 21:4-5).

When you have time and opportunity, think on these and many other spiritual gifts.  As Paul the apostle says, we are to “dwell on these things” (Philippians 4:8). If we do this, there won’t be the time to fall into despair or depression. We will be overwhelmed with awe, with gratitude, and with wonder. Christ Jesus, God the Father, and all spiritual blessings will be all! “Christ is all, and in all” (Ephesians 3:11).
