Dealing with Eternal Realities

Some of you may wonder why we make mention of the fact that most of the world population think that they are right—but many (most but not all) of these somehow think that all will be well with them in the future. But will it be well with them in the life to come? Why is this? How can this be? How can it be that all are right and all will be saved and all will go to God in heaven? Sad, but this is impossible!

Most of us can’t bear the thought that this life is all there is. So we think—surely there must be something out there! Surely there must be some sort of future life. In fact, we devise all sorts of views on what lies out before us. But is this correct? Is this the way it will truly be?

If you are like me, you may know one or more people who think that they will simply live—and then die! Yes, they may live what they think is an acceptable life in case there is “something” in the future, but they really don’t believe it. Others may try to believe in something they have “inherited” from their culture, their family, their friends, society, their religious background, or their devoted religious roots. But is this right?

Thus they think that if they are “good enough” or perform the correct religious rituals, they will “make it.” When I read of the way people live their life without any noticeable regard for the life to come, I find this very sad. I say to myself, “Don’t these people—deep down—know that the moment they take their last breath, they will forever seal their doom and they must face a perfect, sinless Creator and Judge? How true this is—whether people may choose to believe this or not!

We could be writing this of many different people. Jake is living His life as a “good” person and His religion says that He will “pass the test” and be ushered into “heaven.” Barbara dutifully goes along with her religious rituals and hopes that her Creator will find these acceptable—acceptable enough that he (or Barbara thinks “she”) will welcome her with open arms into a better place. And Steve somehow things that he will come back (through reincarnation) to earth and live another life. Jamie, in contrast, especially because of what she has heard from her skeptical family and unbelieving college professors, thinks that this life is all there is. When this life on earth is over, she will just cease to exist—like her pet dog! Maybe her friends will say pleasant things about her or they will “pipe in” favorite songs to be played, but that is it. When she is cremated, she will be no more.

Sadly, we must say that all of these examples demonstrate how wrong people can be. As God’s written word says, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 12:14). Notice—most people think that their conception of life after death (or no life after death) “seems right.” But the end that will surely come is actually “the way of death”—not physical death alone but eternal death. In other words, the “lake of fire” that will be forever (Revelation 20:11-15; 21:8; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10).

Whoever you are, we urge you to get right with God now—before it is too late. Now is the time for none of us knows when our last day will come. You and I have known people who have departed—unprepared. Just yesterday, I received an email that mentioned two (2) more old friends who died. They are gone and try as I might, I just can’t reach them to warn them. Do it today!
