In the Midst of the Chaos
Richard Hollerman
As we continue in the midst of the present chaos in this country and around the world, we must remember that Satan is “alive and well” and wants to ruin us. He knows what He is doing and has centuries of practice in his evil arts!
Recently, I received a message by computer that says something that has been a blessing and has touched my heart. I hope it will touch yours as well:
“You’re not alone if the events of the past year have left you deeply unsettled. The government’s handling (and mishandling) of the COVID contagion; the chaos and controversy surrounding the presidential election; massive entertainment and media industries standing in flagrant opposition to the truth; mainstream acceptance of the LGBTQ agenda, abortion, and almost every conceivable vice; major cities in America wracked by riots, crime, and open anarchy—all these and many lesser signs have become relentless reminders that our culture has reached the bottom of the diabolical spiral described in Romans 1:21-32. People not only commit and heartily approve gross evil; they demand everyone’s participation in the public celebration of wickedness.
“There is no political solution to what ails our civilization. No politician, public official, or candidate for public office can remedy what’s wrong with our culture.
“. . . . Christ is not trying to “redeem the culture,” He is calling out a people for His name (Acts 15:14). He is building His church. And nothing that happens in the world either aids or hinders the advance of His kingdom. He depends on nothing and no one to accomplish His purposes. It concerns me when Christians view the political tides as somehow changing redemptive history, or as posing a threat to—or creating opportunities for—the church’s advancement.
“Politics has never been the real threat to the health and growth of the church, nor has it been a source of hope or ultimate answers. The true threat that God’s people face are the ideas raised up against the knowledge of God, propagated by the god of this world; “speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:5). And the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but divinely powerful for the destruction of those ideological fortresses. Indeed, “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
“While we may dodge a socially destructive bullet from time to time, the enemy is firing relentlessly in a vicious, wholly spiritual battle. In the arenas of politics, media, entertainment, education, and the culture at large, Scripture is under constant assault—it’s the point of attack. Thankfully, God’s Word is powerful and sufficient, smashing all false ideologies. The church’s testimony and effectiveness rise and fall on its commitment to living and proclaiming God’s Word, not on who occupies the White House, Congress, or the governor’s mansion..
“That is why in every era, in all lands, and for all people, nothing is more important than Scripture. Apart from the proclamation of God’s Word, there is no conversion, no growth, no sanctification. There are no answers. There’s no hope. Everything else is window dressing.
(Grace to You, January 19, 2021. We hope you know that we cannot approve of the contents of this site but there are some helpful comments along the way!).
Not long ago, I receive a few very outrageous and condemnatory statements from another country (I think it was Pakistan). This professing “Christian” preacher condemned me for some unknown reason, and condemned the country in which I life—The United States.
I replied that I cannot endorse all that America stands for and I feel very much of this opinion even more now—after the last few months. Indeed, America—with its influence from education, entertainment, sports, politics, business, and much more—has fallen deeper and deeper into wickedness. With millions of babies slain, with massive riots in the cities, with a failure to use money wisely, and so much more, America has become a nation of evil.
Sadly, Pakistan and virtually all other countries in the world have also gone down the road of wickedness. Whether we speak of the false religions in most of the world’s nations, or whether the rank infiltration of evil on the streets, we find a country under the power of the enemy. In the midst of the present chaos, we find that millions, tens of millions, and even hundreds of millions of people who are sinking deeper into the realm of evil.
We hope that you will be among those whom God is calling to Himself, ones with a name that speaks of holiness and righteousness. Won’t you come to God and find your identity in Jesus Christ!
