Kate Brown and Her Perverse Liberalism

(The Crisis in Oregon)

Richard Hollerman

Many of you may not recognize the name of Kate Brown. But those of you who do know of her may realize that we carried an article on her earlier on the Truediscipleship.com website. We pointed out that she is the present governor of the state of Oregon. Perhaps it would be good to point out a few of the facts that come to us because of the present crisis that the United States presently faces—the rioting in Portland!

Let’s make it clear from the beginning that we hold no grudges against this woman. She is a person make in the image of God—even though she denies Him (Genesis 26-27). Still she deserves the respect that God would want. In one respect, we do not at all “respect” this governor since she has adopted such wicked positions, yet we do “respect” her as a creation of God. With this in mind, let’s proceed.

First, Kate is an openly bi-sexual man/woman who doesn’t hide her homosexuality. In fact, she is very proud of her perversion. And the sodomites love her and her positions on their behalf. At this point we wonder whether we should honestly call her as Mr. or Mrs., as a man or a woman. But we assume that she is a woman even though she favors sodomite relationships.

Second, she serves as a senator for the state of Oregon. I wonder very much how this state could become so liberal and perverse as to vote for this woman and actually elect her for public office. But she has been a governor for some years and has been reelected, thus we assume that she has support in the state—at least from the very liberal voters.

Third, we know that it is an abomination for a woman—any woman—to occupy such a position as a governor. If it is evil and disobedience to God (1 Corinthians 11:3) for a woman to exercise authority over a man, surely it would be impossible for a governor to be submissive to men and even to not speak in public (see 1 Timothy 2:11-12; 1 Corinthians 14:33-37).

Fourth, Kate is known as an unapologetic Democrat. Presently, her liberal views are becoming known especially with the public view of rioting. At this time, Portland has had over three months of rioting, with objection to the police, with open defiance of public decorum, with open unlawful activity, and so much more perversion. We wonder how Kate could allow this sort of public and open disobedience and defiance.

Fifth, we should realize that even though this situation that we have been discussing comes from the liberal state of Oregon and the liberal city of Portland, there are a few more conservative, law-abiding, honest, upright, and godly in the state. We must not “paint the state” with a “broad brush.” While most the citizens must be liberal and against God’s standards, still there must be a few who grieve in the way the state is going.

Sixth, we notice this past announcement:

Oregon’s next governor, Kate Brown, has been married to a man since 1997. The gay community still claims her as their own, and she still claims them.

The 54-year-old is noted on Pinterest — right alongside Fergie and Alexander the Great — as a bisexual role model. And now, she will make history as she becomes the first openly LGBT sitting governor.

“Do we claim her? Absolutely,” said Abigail Webb, a Northwest Portland woman who identifies as queer. “In the community, Kate is our out-bisexual person. She’s definitely been an advocate.”

Webb and other Oregon activists say having Brown in such a prominent position will have a huge impact on civil rights here. Brown agrees: Having LGBT people in office has a huge impact on state laws, she said at a 2011 Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund champagne brunch. To get a further view of Kate, let’s notice another description of this woman that should be enough to convince us that she utterly objects to morality, spirituality, and anything good:

Kate Brown (born June 21, 1960) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 38th governor of Oregon since February 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, she served three terms as the representative from the 13th district of the Oregon House of Representatives from 1991 to 1997, three terms as the senator from the 21st district of the Oregon Senate from 1997 to 2009, three terms as Majority Leader of the Oregon Senate from 2003 to 2009, and two terms as Secretary of State of Oregon from 2009 to 2015. She became governor of Oregon upon the resignation of John Kitzhaber in 2015.[1] She was elected to serve out the remainder of his gubernatorial term in the special election in 2016 and was reelected to a full term in 2018.

As an openly bisexual woman, Brown has made history several times through her electoral success. In 2008, she became the first openly LGBT person elected secretary of state of a state in the United States. In 2016, she became the first openly LGBT person elected governor of a state in the United States as well as the second woman elected governor of Oregon

What would we like from this public exposure of Kate? Surely we don’t expect a public outcry against this governor or her extreme liberalism. We don’t think that this will cause law-abiding citizens or even true Christians to reject the Democratic party because of her. (Although this may be good, we don’t expect this to happen.)

But we do want to call professing Christians to look at themselves, to look at Kate, to look at the Democrats, and to look to look at this country of the United States. Most of all, we encourage all of our readers to look toward God. We do know that God works through civil government (cf. Romans 13:1-7) and even brings to power the most wicked of people (including the likes of Nebuchadnezzar—cf. Daniel 4:17, 25; 5:21).

This suggests that as evil as it is that Kate ran for public office, as perverse as it is that she accepted the nomination and is now governor, as wrong as it is that Kate has taken a public position, as perverse as it is that Kate is involved in an odious sexual relationship—still she is to be obeyed in all things that are permissible.

Every true Christian should take this situation and see that this country—the nation that claims that it is a “Christian” country—is no longer “Christian” in outlook. Of course, we know that it never really was—from the days of Jamestown to Plymouth. But we do recognize that there was a professing “Christian” position on some matters in the past. In many respects, this is no longer true.

Let’s look at this as a warning to each of us to have a godly and Christian worldview even when society around us is broken and falling apart. Let’s remember that “the Most High is ruler over the realm of  mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes, and sets over it the lowliest of men” (Daniel 4:17b).
