Open Letter to Xi Jinping (No. 4)

Dear Xi Jinping,

Greetings to you from America. I realize that your country and my country (China and the United States, respectively) are the greatest of “trading partners.” At least this is what we read about and I assume that this is true. Your country buys agricultural products and the United States purchases a wide array of products. They say that this is good, although I must admit that I have never made international trade a priority.

Xi Jinping, I again wanted to come to you with the huge crisis that has arisen in your country and in mine—as well as perhaps at least another 190 countries of the world. As you know, this crisis has reached far into the trillions of dollars, more than we can even imagine.

It would be nice if you could agree with me that the crisis that must have begun about December of last year (2019) (although some may say that it has its roots in November) has snowballed since that time! Many trillions of dollars have been spent by America alone but all of the other nations of the world have spent vast sums of money as well.

It seems clear to most of these people (other than China) that China is guilty of vast negligence in the way people in that country have dealt with this crisis. Whether this problem began in the “wet markets” of Wuhan or whether it began in a laboratory in this district or perhaps in some other way, we don’t know. But the fact that it began in the country of China seems clear. Further, it seems clear also that China as a nation is not responsible but the Communist Party of China has been implicated as guilty of vast negligence.

First, I would ask you kindly to face up to your responsibility and perhaps fund a payment for all of the countries of the world. Whether this should be merely 100 trillion dollars or 300 trillion dollars or 1,000 trillion dollars, I do not know. You may be more acquainted with this than I am. For the sake of your conscience, I urge you to do the right thing and reimburse this amount to the nations of the world, including the United States. We know that this cannot “repay” all that has been lost—but it would help in paying the100 to 300 millions of people in America as well as many millions around the world. Further, we know that there have been many millions of lives affected—either through death itself or through painful sickness.

I urge you to have the Communist Party to pay these reparations rather than the poor people in your country who would not be directly involved in this. It is not fair that they must pay for something that the Communist Party in China is responsible for.

As I mentioned in a previous letter to you, we know that you claim to not believe in God as Creator. Yet, we know that even though you make this claim, we know also that you do know deep in your heart that there is a God before whom you stand responsible. Instead of you dying and ceasing to exist, actually, you must face the Creator whom you spent your life denying. As God has said, “That which is known about God is evident within them, for God made it evident to them” (Romans 1:19).

The passage goes on to say: “Since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (v. 20; see also verses 18-32).

I invite you to write back in response to this plea. We know that you may not even receive this letter. And if you do, perhaps you will choose not to reply to it. But I place it before you for your urgent attention.

May God bless you in every way.

Sincerely,

Richard Hollerman
