Some Muslims Tired of the Killing!

It may be that some people who are not Muslims assume that all that Islamists do is to think about killing non-Muslims or what they call “unbelievers” (actually, the Bible calls Muslims “unbelievers” since they refuse to believe in Jesus as the Lord, the Son of God, the Savior of the world). We think that this is not true. Some are very much tired of all of the killing involved in Islamic culture!

With the recent murder of so many people in Afghanistan a few days ago, it may be time to address this—at least briefly. In a newspaper article that ran today, we get some insight into this matter. The article (“Afghanistan mourns, vows to crush militants after attack by IS”) referred to the 63 people killed in a suicide bombing at a Kabul wedding, purportedly by a devotee of IS (Islamic State). (See Fort Worth Star-Telegram, August 20, 2019).

The article noted the brother of the groom at this wedding. He “spoke through tears of his weariness at the bloodshed in the country and the crushing guilt he felt at having to face his neighbors, many of whom lost relatives in the week-end blast.” Although his brother, Mirwais Alami (the groom) survived and so did the bride (Raihana), he regretfully said, “Around 20 victims’ families live in our very neighborhood.”

Ramin (this brother of the groom) spent the day weary because of his involvement in burying his dead neighbors and fellow-citizens. The dead included the young 8-year-old brother of the bride! We’ve learned that nearly 200 people were wounded in the debacle along with the 63 people who were killed by this wicked suicide IS follower.

Ramin confessed, “We are just tired of this life.” Can you and I understand this? Maybe we haven’t experienced anything this traumatic, but it is clear that this country (where some 99 percent are Muslim and where Sharia Law holds sway) and this city has experienced year after year of murder or killing!

Ramin also said, “We don’t care who will make a peace deal. We don’t care who will come into power. What we want is peace. We just want peace.” Somehow this poor, weary, and sad man wants peace and safety, but he doesn’t know where to find it! It isn’t found in a political party. It is not found in a false religion. It is only found in God through Jesus Christ! Paul points out that Christ Jesus “Himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14). The Lord Jesus “made peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:20).

By making peace through His redemptive death on the cross, Christ was able to establish peace between all of those who are willing to come to Him and His sacrificial death. However, the religion of Islam denies that Jesus even died on the cross! How is it possible for Muslims and most others to find true peace while denying the very means of bringing peace?

Sadly, more than 32,000 civilians have been killed in Afghanistan during the past ten years! Shockingly, 927 children were killed last year alone! And it isn’t finished. Just yesterday, at least 66 people were wounded in Ialalabad, an eastern city in the country! Murder and more murder (or killing, if you prefer) will surely continue day by day and year by year, perpetrated by blinded and wicked Muslims, whether members of IS, the Taliban, or other such groups!

Will you pray for these deluded people and ask that God’s love and peace might come to them? This needed and desired peace will come to them only if they are willing to bow the knee to the Lord Jesus and find sweet peace in Him!
