Celebrating an Abomination at Stonewall Inn!

Richard Hollerman

Two days ago (June 30) marked the fiftieth anniversary of the police raid on the American sodomite stronghold in mid-town Manhattan in New York City! There may be a few readers who remember this incident and have been dismayed ever since.

However, not everyone is grieved at what this date and place stands for. Millions of Americans actually celebrate the “coming out” of sodomy or homosexuality in its various forms. This was reflected in the special day’s activities of yesterday. Although millions of Americans may not be homosexual themselves, they rejoice that others can publicly display their sexual immorality in the country. Could it be that this gives them a twisted sense of acceptance of their own sexual immorality?

According to reports (for instance, “50 years of LGBTQ pride showcased in protests, parades” Fort Worth Star-Telegram, July 1, 2019), much happened on this day (July 1, 2019). We read that “exuberant crowds carrying rainbow colors filled New York City streets Sunday for one of the largest pride parades in the history of the gay-rights movement—a dazzling celebration of the 50th anniversary of the infamous police raid on the Stonewall Inn.”

We should comment on this before we proceed. In case someone doesn’t know what the letters stand for, they mean “lesbian,” “gay,” “bisexual,” “transsexual,” and “queer.” This shows that homosexual perpetrators or advocates choose to celebrate their immorality by using these terms. “lesbian” is a form of homosexuality or sodomy in the female. “Gay” means a sodomite, “one who is a homosexual.” “Bisexual” is a form of perversion in which a man or a woman chooses to have sex with either or both genders. “Transsexual” is one who knows he is a certain gender, but he (or she) chooses to identify with the opposite gender. “Queer” formerly referred to “differing in some way from what is usual or normal” (Merriam-Webster). Now, it is used to refer to an attraction to the opposite (or same) gender. To the “straight” person, all of this seems (and is) quite bizarre and it grieves his heart to even consider this unrighteousness.

As we can see, all of this would be a form of sexual perversion. It is an abomination to God, the One who created us “male and female” (Genesis 1:27). It not only shows a willingness to change the way God has created us, but it is a way of casting off God Himself and His creative act. Thus, it is an offence against the Lord. It has been viewed as a disgusting and wicked rebellion against God our Creator.

The report continues: “Marchers and onlookers took over much of mid-town Manhattan with a procession that lasted hours and paid tribute to the uprising that began at the tavern when patrons resisted officers on June 28, 1969.” (Ibid.) This shows that the event not only was a rebellion against God but also against the civil state, tradition, and common decency.

One of those who attended was Eraina Clay, 63 years of age, from New Rochelle. She commented, “I think that we should be able to say we’ve been here for so long, and so many people are gay, that everybody should be able to have the chance to enjoy their lives and be who they are. . . . I have a family. I raised kids. I’m just like everybody else.” From this, she seems to say that what she (or is it he?) stands for is right since it has been around for at least 50 years. Is this true? Every thinking reader knows that it is not. She (or he) says that many people are gay. (Once again, she uses “gay” even though the term means joyful—something that these perverts are not). She continues that every sodomite should be able to “enjoy their lives.” Obviously, God does not want a sexual pervert to “enjoy” his or her life—but to repent and get right with Him! She (or he) then says that she raised children. Rather than being a cause for approval or joy, this is a reason to lament and grieve since she chose to deliberately train her children in wickedness. God says that parents are to bring up their children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”—not in the evil ways of the world! (Ephesians 6:4).

Another woman (?) who is 29 years of age “was topless, wearing just sparkly pasties and boy shorts underwear. A Pride flag was tied around her neck like a cape.” She said, “I’ve been to the Pride parade before, but this is the first year I kind of wanted to dress up and get into it.” Perhaps this is a demonstration of the lengths to which adherents will go to flout their bodies and rebel against their Creator. She was apparently nearly nude and she exults in pride (a sin that will condemn one to hell (Romans 1:27-32).

That same day, some 2,000 people assembled outside of the infamous Stonewall Inn. There was a “Queer Liberation March” near the bar. In what was once a term of derision (“queer”), now it seems that some people find their solidarity and point of pride and boasting in the term! Again, we see the bizarre perspective of members of this sexual immorality.

What more can we say about this event that shamelessly demonstrated the most depraved aspects of unlawful and unscriptural sexuality? We must remember that there must be some captivated by this extreme sexual perversion who want to be free—fully free from the slavery of sexual immorality. Further, there must be some who are sick of this kind of lifestyle and long to find liberty. But where might this be found? True Christians know that this can be found only from God through Christ Jesus and His sacrificial death!

Jesus Himself explained, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin” (John 8:34). But then He says further, “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (v. 36). This is what the homosexual knows deep in his heart—that he is in the spiritual bondage and Christ alone can give us freedom! One is given freedom indeed through Christ the Son alone!

If you are “straight,” let us be concerned about the thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) who are in the bondage of homosexuality. We do know that millions of “straight” men and women are also in the sexual bondage of “straight” sexuality—such as fornication and adultery. They also need to find freedom from their sin through trusting in the lifted up Christ, repenting of their sins, and being immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of sins (see John 3:14-18, 36; Acts 2:38-39; 22:16; Romans 5:6-11).

While we may grieve over the open wickedness of the sexual immorality and perversion displayed in this “prideful” event, we need to also see our own sin (which many be manifested in more “normal” sins) and repent of it. We need to submit to God and His Word and thereby find His full forgiveness. Are you willing to do this?
