Overcoming Sin through Christ
A Comprehensive List of Sins
(Alphabetically Arranged)
Richard Hollerman
The plan of this study is simple. We will look at a large number of sins, one by one, alphabetically. We will define the sin, describe it, and comment on it, along with noticing Scripture references on the particular entry. Some illustrations will be offered along with the description.
Lukewarmness
Christ has a message to the saints in Laodicea, one that we need in our own day: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth” (Revelation 3:15-16). These brothers were “lukewarm” which means that they must have been apathetic or lackadaisical. We’ve already discussed apathy earlier, so we need not dwell on it here.
The point is that the Lord Jesus is sickened by a cold and apathetic attitude in life. He will “spit” or, literally, vomit out of His mouth those who are indifferent toward His work and the rich opportunities of living for God.
Jesus tells such people, “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent” (Revelation 3:19). Will we be zealous and repent of this sin and begin to be active and zealous for our Savior?
