Do We Have the Right?
(To Control our Body?)
Today I noticed a photo online that showed two feminists, one of whom was holding a sign. What did the sign say? It declared what she thought was the typical feminist agenda, the last of which read, “Right to Control Our Body.” (dennismichaellynch.com/texas-ruling-burial- required-aborted-fetuses-lawsuit-filed/)
We’ve read something like this statement again and again, uttered or written by women who insist on their “rights.” But is this true—or is it a popular but false slogan that is completely false?
The woman’s public proclamation on the sign she carried was entirely false! And why would I make this accusation?
First, God is our Creator, thus He alone has the “right” to decide what He wants to do with our body. The term right refers to “a legally, morally, or traditionally just claim” (The American Heritage College Dictionary). For example, Maria Edgeworth claimed, “I’m a champion for the Rights of Woman.”
But consider: Does anyone have a “just claim” to their own body? God gave us our body for a purpose. It is not meant for immorality, “but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body” (1 Corinthians 6:13b). God owns our body! The claim of the feminists is totally wrong!
Second, the feminist in the picture who proclaimed that she wanted to “control her body,” was not being open and forthright. Of course, God is the owner of our body but He has given us the responsibility to use our body in a right way. He expects us to care for this body, feed it, clothe it, and keep harmful substances (such as drugs, tobacco, alcohol, etc.) from it. As Paul wrote, “no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it” (Ephesians 5:29a).
Third, the slogan quoted above is a lie! A lie is “a false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood.” “Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression” (Ibid.). Definitely the feminist proponents of abortion know that they are taking human life, therefore they are guilty of murder. While they loudly profess that they are promoting the “right” of the mother to “control her body,” what they really mean is “the right to kill her own child”! They simply are not being honest. Further, most feminists and pro-abortionists are not deliberately wanting to slay their own children, but they want the supposed “freedom” to live without children—the very children that they conceive or the children that they fear they will conceive if they continue in their sexually immoral lifestyle!
We need to see through the public pronouncements of radical and unbiblical feminists and discover their underlying lies. We need to shine the light of truth on their profession and see what they really stand for. In God’s sight, they have no right to “control their own body” and kill their babies. God has not given them that right!
