What God Hath Promised

What God Hath Promised

What God Hath Promised

[We all face trials and tribulations in life.  This is part of following Christ Jesus as His follower and it is also a part of living on this sin-filled and imperfect earth.  It is good to remind ourselves that God has not promised us a problem-free life.  Instead, He has promised His grace and power to deal with our trouble-filled life.  The following song is often used as a poem and this is how I was introduced to it many years ago.  However, it is a song that some of you have probably sung at one time or another.  Read over the verses and take courage in their message of hope.  Commit it to memory if you would like to remember it in your own times of trial.]

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

God hath not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain rocky and steep,
Never a river turbid and deep.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

Annie J. Flint, 1919
