The Extent of Pluralism

The Extent of Pluralism

As pluralism overtakes America as it has Europe and other places of the world, we are confronted with the fact that many Americans simply don’t know how vital it is that we are united to Christ and accept His truth. They must simply think that if we believe certain things about Jesus and live a “good, clean, moral life,” then all is well and we’ll all make it to heaven!

Those who know the truth of God realize how false this is. In fact, this thinking is deadly to our spiritual life and deadly to those we are seeking to bring to Christ for His salvation.

I was watching a talk today in which the speaker quoted a study made by George Barna. As you may now, periodically this pollster tells us what he finds in the religious world. This Barna Poll states that 43 percent of Americans say that “The Bible, the Koran and the Book of Mormon offer [the] same spiritual truths” (10/9, via Watchman Fellowship).

Consider this for a moment. Is it true that the Book of Mormon and the Koran (Qur’an) offer truth as does God’s written truth found in the Bible?  Those who have studied into this issue tell us that the Book of Mormon is a fabrication by a young superstitious man from the nineteenth century in the state of New York. They also rightly tell us that the Koran was supposed to be dictated by the angel Gabriel to a superstitious man in a cave in Arabia in the seventh century. Regardless of the millions of people who accept these false documents, this doesn’t in any way say they are truth!

A person who sincerely consumes strychnine poison will surely die—because it is deadly. Likewise, the one who accepts any document as truth that is false will surely die. As we read, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

In contrast, Jesus says to God His Father, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). The Lord said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32). Jesus declared, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). Further, the Lord said, “The Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35).

The bottom line is this: God’s Word, found in the Bible, is the truth of God and must be accepted and believed to be saved. Anything else will lead to death—eternal death (Romans 6:23).
