Keeping the Facts Straight about Sodomy

Keeping the Facts Straight about Sodomy

We are sure to read and hear much about the issue of homosexual rights now that Bill Clinton is our new president. Whether it be homosexuals in the military or homosexuals in top government offices, it will often be before the American public.

Now is the time to remind ourselves of the basic facts regarding sodomy so that we can make informed and wise judgments in the coming months.

First, sodomy is an unnatural vice that deviates from the way we were created and the way we are constituted. God made one man and one woman to be joined together for life. Obviously, this disallows the union of two men or two woman.

Second, sodomy is a learned attitude and behavior. God would not condemn sodomy if it were a deviation that one was born with, such as a birth defect. Since it is learned, the sodomite can have home of change—he can unlearn it. To say that he has a kind of “illness” takes away the hope of change he so much needs.

Third, male homosexuals account for over two-thirds of the AIDS cases in this country. Apart from sodomy and drug use, this venereal disease would not be the disastrous problem that it is. Thus, we are speaking of a very serious perversion with physical, emotional, and economic consequences.

Fourth, the Word of God condemns sodomy in unmistakable terms—along with other sexual offenses, such as premarital sex (fornication) and marital unfaithfulness (adultery). The Bible simply says that homosexuals cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10), but rather are under the righteous wrath and judgment of God (Romans 1:18, 26-27, 32). Whatever President Clinton or anyone else things about this sin, we know what is God’s unerring view. (We might also bear in mind that God is able to graciously forgive the sodomite if he is willing to repent and turn from his perversion—Proverbs 28:13.)

Please keep these settled facts in mind during Clinton’s administration, especially during the coming several months when this issue is sure to arise. You will then be able to make sound judgments as homosexual rights are discussed and debated.
