Islamic Murder and the Gospel

It is clear to anyone who is not a Muslim, living in an Islamic nation, under the reign of Sharia Law, that murder is an essential part of this system! Outsiders may not be able to comprehend the mindset that would deliberately kill a person who is not a Muslim and who makes that disbelief known. But the devoted adherent of Islam knows very well why such murders exist.

We think of various “radical” Muslim groups worldwide—Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood, and others. But presently, ISIS is much on the mind of the world when they think of Islamic killings. In the Western World and elsewhere, such ritual killings seem unimaginable, cruel, and radical. Indeed, they are cruel, radical, and unimaginable, but still they go on.

Just in the past couple of days the newspaper reported on the ISIS murder of a Hindu tailor in Bangladesh. Supposedly, Nikhil Chandra Joarder, 52, was killed because he “blasphemed” Muhammad. (“ISIS Says it Killed Bangladesh Tailor Jailed for Blasphemy,” Fort Worth, Star-Telegram, May 1, 2016). According to the Islamic Law as interpreted by this well-known terrorist organization, anyone who speaks against “the prophet” (Muhammad) deserves to die because of his opposition to this false religion.

We wouldn’t seek to defend the belief of this Hindu man for surely his belief in millions of false “gods” is a blameworthy view, but neither can we approve of his murder at the hands of radical Muslims. The newspaper account says that Nikhil was “hacked to death”! The article goes on, “Similar attacks claimed by the militants seem to be accelerating, with five people hacked to death in the past nine days.” The article says that Nikhil “stepped outside his shop, and around noon two or three men arrived on motorcycles and cut him on his head, his neck, his face and a hand.” He “died on the spot.” We can see that this ISIS outreach is filled with hatred, deception, cruelty, and rage! It is the very opposite from the peaceful way of Jesus Christ!

The Christian has difficulty understanding this belief and these cruel actions. There are several reasons for this:

First, the Christian is commanded to speak the truth in love  and this would include telling the truth about a false prophet, regardless of his popularity in a certain world religion—Islam (Ephesians 4:15).

Second, the Christian has been given the command to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15)—and this would include the Islamic world. In order for the believer to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, he must show the false philosophies, the false religions, and the false anti-Christs in the world that would lead people away from the truth of God.

Third, the Christian seeks to be absolutely honest in all of his statements, for Proverbs 12:22 says, “Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD; but those who deal faithfully are His delight.” Many lies are associated with the Muslim’s murder of innocents.

Fourth, Scripture says that “murder” is a deed of the flesh, and “those who practice such things are worthy of death” (Romans 1:29, 32). All murderers will have a part in the lake of fire—hell (Revelation 21:8). Instead of a praiseworthy deed, killing others is reprehensible to a Holy God.

Fifth, God’s Word even says that hatred that leads to murder is forbidden, and “you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him” (1 John 3:15).

Sixth, instead of defending a false teacher, God’s Word says that we are to expose and condemn him. “Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God” (1 John 4:2b).

From these points it is clear that when a Muslim kills a non-Muslim because the latter has identified Muhammad as a false prophet, we have something totally misguided, ill conceived, and perverted. A false teacher is one who utters false statements about the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and if anyone—including religious leaders—denies Christ’s deity, Christ’s Sonship, Christ’s death on the cross, and Christ’s resurrection, then we know that such a person is a false teacher who is opposing the very God and Creator of us all. It is an utterly serious matter to teach false doctrine about Jesus Christ. And if that person adds to this false teaching by murdering one who proclaims the truth, that is doubly serious!

Let’s open our eyes to the truth about the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, and also open our eyes to those who would deny this cardinal fact of God’s truth.
