California
Homosexual Laws
Today’s Star-Telegram (June 18, 2008)
ran a report detailing the first day of legal homosexual
unions in California. The
article stated that hundreds were “wed” on this first day
of state unions.
Although we can be glad that Texas will
not recognize these California unions, it is time for us
to remember again the reason why we oppose this kind of relationship
and union. God,
our holy and righteous Creator, chose to make one man and
one woman—Adam and Eve. Then
the Lord established the institution of marriage, which is
the union of one man and one woman—for life. The
Bible says, “A man shall leave his father and his mother,
and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis
2:24). The Lord
Jesus reiterated this basic principle of our Maker, by declaring, “They
[the husband and wife] are no longer two, but one flesh. What
therefore God has joined together, let no man separate” (Matthew
19:6).
Judges in California and Massachusetts,
as well as the Netherlands, may refuse to abide by God’s
design for marriage, but this God-created institution still
stands. Regardless
of how many states, how many judges, how many people, and
how many nations seek to overthrow our Creator’s wise design,
the moral law of God stands: One husband with one wife for
life.
In former days of this country, nearly
everyone agreed that homosexuality was a perversion of nature,
a crime against humanity, and a violation of God’s universal
moral law. They
recognized that all unrepentant homosexuals will be eternally
punished and no practicing homosexual will enter God’s kingdom
(1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Romans 1:26-27; Galatians 5:19-21).
Today many people object to this moral
principle. Because
of liberal education, evolutionary thought, and immoral officials,
many immoral acts are now accepted by an increasing number
of people. God
says that most divorce is sinful; but this has become commonplace
in our society. God says that adultery is sinful; but an
amazingly large number of people commit adultery, including
remarriage after divorce. God
says that fornication or premarital sexual relations are
sinful; but a majority of unmarried people claim they have
engaged in sexual relations. God
says that sodomy or homosexuality is sinful; although most
do not practice this perversion, many accept it as normal
and natural. If all
of this has been accepted or at least condoned, when will
other forms of sexual sin become acceptable in society, including
child sexual abuse, polygamy, nudity, and prostitution?
Let every Christian stand for truth and
righteousness in this age of moral relativism or outright
immorality—as reflected in the current laws of California. God’s
moral law still stands and always will! And
let us also remember that any homosexual may be forgiven
by a merciful God through the death of Christ—if they will
only repent and forsake their ways!
